Bike Trail Moving Towards Repair

This story in today’s Bee indicates part of the bike trail by CSUS may be getting closer to repair so that those having to take the detour for the past year may soon be back on the smooth rubberized trail.

The work being done is crucial as it will expand the sewer capacity for the area, important to have completed by the time of the next high water.

Here is an excerpt.

After about a year of being out of commission, a particularly busy stretch of the American River Parkway bicycle trail is still off-limits.

But officials promise that access to the verdant stretch of the bike trail will be available to cyclists and pedestrians in a couple of months.

The spot in question - roughly between the Guy West and H Street bridges across the river from California State University, Sacramento - has been closed during construction of a big sewer pipe project.

Pedestrians and bikers were prevented from using the smooth bike path that courses next to the river under tall trees.

Instead, parkway enthusiasts were detoured to the top of the levee that parallels the trail for about four-tenths of a mile.

"On the plus side, at least we have had a way to get through," said Lea Brooks, president of the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates. "On the downside, this has just gone on and on and on.
