SACRAMENTO – A representative has pulled papers for Kevin Johnson to run for mayor of Sacramento, but the former NBA player has not decided if he will challenge Mayor Heather Fargo.
"He's just doing his due diligence, but this doesn't signal that he's made up his mind," said David Townsend, a local political consultant who is volunteering his efforts on Johnson's behalf.
Johnson has until 5 p.m. March 7 to submit nomination papers to the City Clerk's Office.
Johnson, a local landowner and developer who founded St. HOPE, the nonprofit organization that runs Sacramento Charter High School, has said he's seriously considering a run for Sacramento's top political post. Townsend said a host of volunteers has offered to help. "The response has been staggering," Townsend said.
