Many of the neighborhoods close to the Parkway were built without sidewalks, to be congruent with the natural environment spreading out from the river; and that is why people love those neighborhoods and moved there to begin with.
The talk of building sidewalks in one of them, Arden Park, while making sense from some perspectives, rings hollow with the people who live there, and it appears the county is listening.

Arden Park sidewalk fight looms
Many residents oppose a plan to add them, council tells Board of Supervisors.

The Arden Arcade Community Council sent a strongly worded letter to Sacramento County supervisors last week spelling out that many residents oppose a plan for sidewalks on streets in Arden Park.
The letter, which the council approved sending to the Board of Supervisors at a meeting last week, noted that residents' testimony on June 1 indicated there had been little communication about a sidewalk plan, and what residents heard, they didn't like.
"Specifically, residents of Arden Park who were in attendance were uniformly against adding sidewalks to a neighborhood which is unique in character and which has done without sidewalks for its history," the letter stated.
The letter noted that there was some interest in sidewalks in heavily congested areas around Mariemont School and Cresta Park. But even those in support of sidewalks there were in a minority.
"Though planners and consultants may sincerely view these proposals as an opportunity to enhance the safety and quality of neighborhoods," the letter continued, "our view at this time, based on a limited discussion with people from the Arden Park neighborhood, is that these proposals are not welcome and suffer from lack of community input."
