The developer donating land for a new California State University, Sacramento, campus has asked Roseville to annex the property rather than continuing to pursue development approvals through Placer County.
Placer Ranch Partners, controlled by developer Eli Broad, submitted a formal request Wednesday to the city of Roseville, asking that the 2,200 acres be considered for annexation.
The Roseville City Council is slated to decide Nov. 14 whether to proceed with the annexation process.
"One of the reasons we can consider it is that about half of Placer Ranch is in our sphere of influence; it makes sense," said City Manager Craig Robinson. The city shares three miles of its northern boundary with the Placer Ranch property.
Holly Tiche, president of Placer Ranch, said the decision was purely financial. The county's estimates for the cost of supplying the university and adjacent development with police, fire and other urban services were far higher than Roseville's.
