Oct. 20, 1974: With 1,000 spectators on hand, the Sacramento Metropolitan Utility District dedicates its new nuclear power plant. Rep. Chet Holifield of Montebello says the Rancho Seco facility will replace 12 billion barrels of oil a year. Pro- testers representing Citizens for Safe Energy of Sacramento demonstrate nearby.
