Lower American River Flows To Be Decreased to Complete Installation of Fish Pickets at Nimbus Fish Hatchery
On Monday, September 18, 2006, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Bureau of Reclamation will decrease flows in the Lower American River below Nimbus Dam from 2,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 1,000 cfs to complete the installation of the fish pickets at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery. Fish pickets are used to prevent fish from bypassing the fish ladder entrance and guide them into the hatchery for spawning. Reclamation will increase flows back up to 2,500 cfs after the work is completed. If it becomes necessary to extend the work schedule, an announcement will be published immediately.
Recreationists on or along the Lower American River are advised to exercise caution due to cold river temperatures and fluctuating flow conditions.
