The League of California Cities on Thursday awarded the cities of Folsom and Rancho Cordova, and Sacramento and El Dorado counties, with the Helen Putnam Award.

The cities and counties were honored for the Highway 50 Corridor Mobility Partnership, a public-private partnership that has identified 10 projects that will reduce the commuter delay on Highway 50 by 30 percent. The transportation improvements are to be developed by 2012.

The Helen Putnam award is given annually for 11 categories. Folsom, Rancho Cordova, and Sacramento and El Dorado counties, won in the category of effective advocacy, intergovernmental relations and regional cooperation. Twenty-seven cities won awards this year, out of 115 nominations.
