Plans for a sports complex in the Meadowview area received a $10,000 boost from Health Net of California, it was announced Monday.
The health insurance company recently donated the cash to Antioch Progressive Baptist Church, which is seeking to build a 9-acre sports park on the church grounds at 7650 Amherst St.
A toddler playground already has been completed, church officials said.
The goal is to build tennis courts and basketball courts, along with fields for soccer, football and other sports, said Kevin Cristophe, the church's fundraising chairman for the project.
About $300,000 has been raised for the park.
The Sacramento Job Corps, which offers job and skills training for young people, will provide much of the labor, he said.
"The sports complex combines fun and fitness to encourage a healthy lifestyle and we are pleased to be part of it," David Friedman, chief operating officer, government programs for Health Net, said in a statement.
