Yolo County officials on Wednesday appointed the first director of the county's new Parks and Resources Department.
Warren E. Westrup Jr., who has 34 years of experience with the state parks department, will start his new job on Oct. 1.
Westrup will guide conservation of natural resources and parks and oversee special projects, such as the county's parks and open-space master plans.
The annual salary range for the job is $91,320 to $111,024.
County Administrator Sharon Jensen, who announced the appointment, said Westrup has a range of skills that will be essential to implement the county's parks and resources objectives.
Westrup holds a landscape architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
In March, the supervisors approved creation of the Parks and Resources Department. Previously, it was a division of the Planning, Resources and Public Works Department.
