Recycling

A great story about very good work.

Don't let trash go to waste
That's the mission of haulers who salvage items for reuse, often by charities

Brian Taylor is a trash hauler, an army of one who's fighting a good fight to save the world -- one TV, one bicycle, one discarded item at a time.

In the battle against waste, one man can make a difference, Taylor says, and doubters are, well, just full of rubbish.

In his well-kept garage, next to a small backyard plot of tomatoes and squash, is a fully functional 56-inch wide-screen television -- one of the valuable discards, big and small, he comes across now and then. He doesn't plan to keep the behemoth TV but hasn't yet found it a new home.

It certainly isn't heading to where its previous owner had intended: the landfill.
Yes, Taylor is a trash hauler, but his mission is to keep most of his haul from reaching the county dump.

For the past four years, Taylor has been carving a niche for himself in the business of other people's garbage.

"When they call me, they just want it gone. They don't care where it goes," says Taylor, whose Curb Appeal hauling company is a one-man operation. "I've never had one customer yet who's disappointed that their stuff isn't going to the landfill."
