Interesting letter in the Bee today concerning those environmentalists who feel humans are a virus on the planet and the cause of its problems, and their ideological roots finding expression in the nation’s wilderness parks, preserved for people to enjoy in privacy.
Here is an excerpt.
Extreme environmentalism's toll
Re "Out of fashion: Camping," editorial, June 13:
It took The Bee five paragraphs to answer the "why the camper decline?" question. It is the preposterous cost. To spend $40 to camp overnight on public property is insulting to everybody except a liberal.
Not mentioned are U.S. Department of Forestry employees at most trailheads issuing directions, brochures and rules to all. Also, there are those volunteer minions for whom I have a message: "Go home" and take your kiosks, signs and yellow tape with you.
"The right to be let alone," wrote Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, "is the most comprehensive of rights, and the right most valued by civilized men." One more time I will inform readers of the only group that is happy. They are now called ideological environmentalists. Their goals in the forests are not savory. They don't want us there; we are not welcome. They do not like us, any of us. We don't think or act correctly.
