This message from Dave Lydick is good news about scheduled nature walks, led by an armed parks ranger, which will begin this month in the Parkway's Lower Reach.
It is the type of organized activity that can have a positive result, as the increase of people pursuing legitimate activity in that area will tend to decrease the illegitimate activity already present.
We'll also post the flyers as they become available.
Message:
All,
We finally have a couple of dates set for nature walks in the lower portion of the American River Parkway. I anticipate us having some flyers designed in the next couple of days and I will forward those along as an attachment when they are available.
The first walk will be on October 21st at 9 am and will meet at the Archery Range parking lot at Discovery Park and head east (upstream) from there. This will be a general nature walk led by Ranger Randy Lewis. The walk will take approximately 2.5 hours. We do not recommend bringing children younger than 7.
The second walk will be on November 4th at 9 am and will meet at the Northgate access parking lot at the end of Northgate Boulevard. This will be a nature walk emphasizing birds. This walk will also take approximately 2.5 hours and will be led by Ranger Randy Lewis. We do not recommend bringing children younger than 7.
We appreciate any assistance you can give us in getting the word out about these walks.
