Input sought on river trail
Published 12:00 am PDT Friday, August 10, 2007

Placer County officials are seeking public input on a 14-mile natural-surface trail proposed for the north fork of the American River.

For hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers, the trail would begin at the confluence of the north and middle forks of the American River and end at the Ponderosa Bridge, Placer County spokeswoman Anita Yoder said.

Bridges, stream fords, staging areas, a restroom, signs and information kiosks are included in the proposed project, she said.

Yoder said a draft environmental impact report has been completed and is available for public review and comment at www.placer.ca.gov.

Copies of the draft report also are available for viewing at the Auburn Library, 350 Nevada St., Auburn, or Placer County Facility Services office at 2855 Second St., Auburn.
A public meeting to discuss the proposed trail and to receive comments has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Community Development Resource Center, 3091 County Center Drive, Auburn.

Written comments will be accepted until Sept. 24. They may be submitted to the Facility Services Department, c/o Andy Fisher, 11476 C Ave., Auburn, CA 95603.
