Skyrocketing gasoline prices and the threat of global warming are fueling the spirits of those who work in a 20,000-square-foot office complex at McClellan Park.

Those people, in turn, are taking steps that someday may make not only Sacramento but all of California and the nation less dependent on the oil that flows from the world's trouble spots.

Few people have heard of the McClellan Technology Incubator, or the CleanStart program that it houses.

Office space, mentoring, introductions to attorneys and accountants and potential investors are among the facilities and services provided to companies whose owners hope they will become the non-fossil fuel powerhouses of the future, Ingrid Rosten said.

Rosten is the executive director of CleanStart, which is designed to accelerate the development of clean-energy firms.

"CleanStart's primary mission is to stimulate the development and success of early-stage companies that will bring the next generation of clean, renewable and efficient technologies to market," Rosten said.
