Gold Rush Park Wins Poll

The Sacramento Business Journal conducts a regular poll, the Business Pulse Survey; and the Question for July 28, 2006 to August 1, 2006 was:

Background: Two groups have competing visions of how to develop hundreds of acres along the American River near Interstate 5 and Richards Boulevard. One wants a regional park with an amphitheater, botanical garden, museums, sports fields and the Sacramento Zoo—but at a hefty price. About 300 acres would be developed as homes to offset the price of the 970 acre project. But property owners in the area want to convert the run-down industrial zone into a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood with hotels, offices, shopping and 10,000 homes.

Question: What should happen to hundreds of acres along the American River?

145 votes (54.5%): Develop Gold Rush park, a regional park that would cost at least $700 million and maybe more than $1 billion.

29 votes (0.9%): Not sure.

92 votes (34.6%): Allow property owners to develop a mixed-use neighborhood of hotels, offices, shopping centers and homes.
